Sandra and Beth Anderson
Toronto, Canada 2013
16-year-old Sandra Anderson and her 15-year-old sister Beth Anderson called 911 for help on this day. They stated that their mother, Linda Anderson was floating in the bathtub showing no signs of life. When the 911 operator told the girls how to start CPR until the paramedics arrived, they both didn't follow directions. The operator was basically pleading to the girls to get their mom out of the bathtub but the girls continued to refuse helping.
When the police and paramedics arrive, their mother is already dead. The investigators saw this as an accident and gave the girls and their family sympathy.
Linda was a single mom that was very depressed and had a drinking problem. She worked two jobs at a time but the sisters and their step-brother never thought she was doing enough for them. They thought they were entitled to anything they wanted.
When police did an investigation, they found 14,000 hits on the girls computers about how to get rid of their mother. The hard-drive on the computer showed keywords of drowning, codeine, and bathtub.
Sandra and Beth knew that if their mother died, they would each get sixty-eight thousand dollars each. They had even thought about how they were going to spend their money by taking all of their friends on a vacations to Europe, buying a marijuana farm, and even buying a nice house.
A counselor had mentioned that the sisters were the smartest kids that she had worked with in thirty years of working. The girls new how to speak five different language fluently. For this kind of murder, the girls had thought hard and planned this in advance. They even told their friends about what they were planning and the friends even helped them months before it happened. Their friends never contacted the police or even the family of them.
The day of the murder, the sisters had mixed codeine into an alcoholic drink for their mother. This drink made their mothers heartbeat slow down and made her feel sedated. While waiting for the drug in the drink to work, the girls went online talking to their friends with an update in the murder. One friend responded with "good luck - wear gloves."
When the drug started to sedate Linda, her daughters made a warm bath for her and once she was in, Sandra forced her moms head under the water until she was dead.
Sandra and Beth bragged to their friends after their plan worked and told them that it wasn't as hard as they thought it would be. Sandra couldn't keep her mouth shut though. When at parties, she bragged to friends and people she had just met at the parties. The police later cracked the girls secret with help from a friend. The friend wore a wire around Sandra while she confessed to the murder of her mother.
Sandra and Beth were convicted in first degree murder of their mother, Linda Anderson. Under the Canadian law, the girls only received ten years in prison and also gained parole after four years of being in prison.
Both Sandra and Beth are now under new names and new lives. The girls attend colleges but are still closely watched by the law.
There is a Hollywood film made about the case named, "Perfect Sisters", though the story told is more sympathetic than the real murder.
