Kelsie Schelling
February 4, 2013
22-year-old Kelsie Schelling was last seen the night she drove from Denver to Pueblo to see her boyfriend, Donthe Lucas. Her cell phone records showed that she had made it to Pueblo but hasn't been seen ever since.
Video surveillance showed Kelsie pulling into the Walmart parking lot in Pueblo at 12:05 p.m. on February 5. The vehicle was parked there over night and at 7:20 a.m. the next morning, an unidentified male was seen getting into her car and driving away.
The car was later found more than a week later on February 14 at St. Mary-Corwin Hospital. The hospital was only four miles East of the Walmart she had been last seen at. Police officers searched the perimeter of the property and surrounding areas using canines but no scent was picked up.
Kelsie's mother, Laura Saxton, stated that she was eight-weeks pregnant and she was going to see her boyfriend to tell him that so now there's two lives in stake. Also, after Schelling disappeared, he debit card was used once by Lucas. He was then arrested for identify theft but charges were later dropped. The Pueblo Police Department still sees Lucas as a suspect in the missing case of Kelsie.
Cell phone records showed how Kelsie sent pictures of her ultrasound taken that day to her family members, Donthe, and his mother. She later received a text from her boyfriend stating that he wanted her to come to Pueblo when she got off of work that night because he needed to speak to her in person.
During their search in April 2017, police did find new evidence for another case involving a Pueblo women who had been missing in the backyard of the Lucas' old residence. It has not been stated that the family had anything to do with the evidence found.
On June 16 of this year at 6:25 a.m., the house that had been occupied by the family, was suddenly a house fire and the Pueblo Fire Department responded to the fire. After, the incident was handed over to the Police Department for investigation of possible arson. They didn't know if the house fire had to do with Kelsie's disappearance but they were not ruling that factor out.
There was a recent search for Schelling in November of 2017 around the area of where she was last seen at.
There are many theories that people have said about this case. Many have said that Donthe hired a hit-man to kill her and that's why he kept changing the location of where they were meeting. Maybe he was having second thoughts before having someone else kill her. Others have said that the reason why he took $400 out of her bank account was possibly because all he wanted was money, he could have also sold her into sex-trafficking for more money.
I have not put all the pieces together to come up with might have happened to her, anything could of happened to her but why was it so easy for someone to get rid of her and never heard from again. I do think foul play was involved. By sharing this case, I am hoping to spread awareness of how quick something can happen to you. These disappearing cases happen so suddenly and people are gone without a trace. Stay aware of what is going around you at all times, big or small.
I’d love to hear what you think about this issue. Let me know in the comments!
